Lost at Sea: Hydros Pro2 reverts to unisex sizing
Emily Wimmer Dec 08, 2025
When SCUBAPRO launched the Hydros Pro back-inflate BCD it came with a revolutionary idea- a “BCD for life”. This BCD was modular allowing the diver to create a travel BCD and a cold-water BCD from one, and replace components on an as needed basis. Setting the standard as the premium back-inflate BCD, it was inclusive to divers with color personalization options and 2 fit lines: mens and womens. The Hydros Pro offered adjustable shoulder, chest and waist straps allowing us to tailor the BCD to fit our unique build. This offer invited women into diving with a BCD design specifically for us, or was it?
Adding a women’s size line began with jacket-style BCD’s, there was one main difference between mens and womens: where the shoulder strap connected to the jacket of the BCD. In the men’s line the shoulder strap connected at the top of the pocket to accommodate longer torsos; in the women’s line the shoulder strap connected inside, at the waist strap near the cumberband to create a snug fit. Sound familiar? It’s the exact same contact point utilized in back-inflate BCDs such as the Hydros Pro models.
With the unveiling of SCUBAPRO’s new Hyrdos Pro2 BCD they have dropped the gender specific sizing and opted for a unisex size line. What does this mean for women divers? Are we reverting to swimming (literally) in equipment designed for men? Unlikely. The Hydros Pro2 maintains the adjustable chest strap, waist strap sizing near the backplate and the shoulder straps now intersect further back along the waist strap, likely improving the fit and comfort for women. Hopefully the only differences we notice are the updates designed for everyone. What are all those updates?
